Thrift stores, estate sales, and the donation bin by the door. Every towel and lining is hot-washed and line-dried before it touches the cutting table, and every zipper and button gets tested twice before it earns a spot in the jars.
Please do — the bin is just inside the door. Faded is fine (faded is the whole point). Donated towels earn you a punch card: five towels, and your next repair or embroidery is on the house.
That’s the Rigging Room’s favorite job. Bring in grandma’s beach towel, a childhood blanket, or a concert tee, and Burt will turn it into a tote, crossbody, or duffel — from $60, two to three weeks in the home studio.
They’re towels — it’s their whole career. Sand shakes out, salt rinses off, and the bag itself washes cold and line-dries. What they aren’t is waterproof, and we’ll never pretend otherwise.
